Magpies

Jun. 9th, 2009 02:58 pm
The magpies are squawking - they've found the chicken I put out for them earlier. I need to learn to put it where I can see them, but instead, I put it where I know they will find it.

Then they walk past the window, holding beakfuls of chicken. Two of them, small-but-adult colours, iridescent in the overcast light. One of them looks around furtively, then drops the meat, peering up to see where the other is. The other one flies up from behind the swings, and goes to get more from the pile in the yard - and the first one races, not flying, to get some first. The second bird, with a HUGE bit, flies over to the lawn, waits until the first one has it's back to him, and then carefully puts the meat down, folds over the grass, and stamps it down.

The first bird flies into the tree, and the second bird goes to where the first one had stashed some food. LIfting a bit of dried grass, it grabs as much chicken as it can, and flies back to the area it had stamped down. Meanwhile, the first bird flies down, walks up, and steals a bit from the second. MUCH chattering, then they both grab as much as they can and take off towards the sheds.

16th June!

See, I am SO glad I went with Be for the other one instead of waiting for Demon to get their arses in gear. That's on a clean new line - I have no idea how long it would have taken them to sort out the line with existing Broadband flagged up on it.

Stupid question - if I have two Wifi/ADSL routers, is there any way to make computers connected to one see computers connected to the other for local network purposes? Or am I going to be hoping that the range is sufficient that i pick and choose networks to suit the task at hand? Demon's primary purpose will be broadband for the games machines and living room/garden so it's not essential.
