I don't actually think many of the UK electorate really gave any thought to what they were voting for outside of the local elections (and indeed, inside in many cases). Those that bothered to vote (44% turnout? 46? I've seen a couple of figures); I think many basically did so to metaphorically punch Gordon Brown in the face.

All of the main UK parties desperately need to get a grip and put together cohesive and disparate policies. Centrist, power-seeking politics is getting boring and infuriating. I won't vote Lib Dem yet, they're still too incoherent and reactive, adjusting whatever mess of policies they last had to respond to the latest scandal or craze, but still with a higher taxation agenda as far as I can tell.

The Tories are no better in this regard, though. They've failed to give any concrete indication of policy, primarily focusing on a battle of personalities.

What's frustrating is that many people have clearly aimed (or not) for a vote AGAINST something - that being Labour, or more specifically, Brown and his pathetic, desperate attempts to cling on to the position he craved so much despite his abject failure whilst in power - rather than FOR. I vote FOR economic freedom, for support for business and enterprise, for reductions in regulation. It's the economy, stupid, and as far as Governance is concerned, THAT is where I want people to concentrate. I don't give a crap what colour, nationality or religion the civilians are, or how many wives or husbands they have, or whether they dance around sticks worshipping a celestial goat every 15th of August, as long as they have the framework to support THEMSELVES. That means the framework might have a few spikes to stop 'em milling about at the bottom, and it may well be greasy as hell near the top, but at least I want a framework and not a cage.

I see, sadly, the Tories still as being the best chance for that outcome.

Of course, whichever way you vote, you still end up with the Government :/
