Well, first, the RX is fantastic on the local roads; I'm having to adjust to it and can't get the same finesse I used to have because the Beetle actually encourages flawed driving by constantly stepping in with the stability programme.
But even better - I got the Dlink DWL2100, plugged it into the Mac, muttered darkly about the awful interface, upgraded the firmware upon which it offered the "scan for networks" dialog missing from the original firmware, connected as an AP Client, and the Mac went online with it. Bingo. Plugged it into the XBox and it worked just like I had hoped it would; video streaming seems tolerable unless the video itself isn't well encoded (some MST3Ks get a bit jerky). All the online toys work too.
w00t, I say.
Now I am googling to find out: how to use the ReplayTV function (is that an online thing?), and how to use iTunes Shared music (DAAP) as iTunes is shared on the G5 but it isn't seeing it.
Hmmm, okay, ReplayTV is a DVR. Don't have one of them. Bah.
iTunes needs to be told where the library is shared from. No problem :D
