It's been a hectic sort of a week. First of all, I had to get the Shitubaru back, which wasted a day. Then I can't even remember what happened to Tuesday - maybe that was Tuesday actually, but I know yesterday I was shopping for stuff and in IKEA. I worked some on my Beetle GPS solution and worked on my reviews (woo, yay, I have CoPilot on the way so I can see if TomTom is deserving of the high profile).
IKEA was interesting. We went with the aim of acquiring a blanket, and came away with a discounted (but still painfully expensive) computer desk/cupboard thingy (which I am sat at now) from the bargain corner, three new lights for the office, all sorts of stuff. Unfortunately, we had the Beetle. Which meant getting my sister's bf to come fetch the big assembled unit, and he drove off too fast (it seemed stable in the back when I put it in, so it didn't even occur to be that it would move), and it tipped over and punched a hole in his new (to him) Discovery's headlining. He seems so unbothered by this, too, but I'm really annoyed because whether these things happen or not, they don't need to happen. Any hints on repairing headling much appreciated (it's the moulded fibre/foam/furry stuff type, not vinyl like on an old car). The desk suffered a chip too. Anyway, thanks to this, I had to go get it in the Scorpio this morning, so I was in Edinburgh again, and went shopping at Kinnaird.
We also needed a new clock radio. It's impossible (like with everything else) to get the right balance. You see something which does everything, almost, for £19, so you feel cheated spending more, but the £19 item lacks dimmable LEDs, or something else stupid. I wanted a lovely wooden Roberts unit (I don't believe Roberts makes radios, or at least the modern units, in the UK anymore, but they are a UK firm) but it lacked a sleep timer; a smaller more contemporary unit offered radio time setting (not sure it works here actually), but I find it doesn't do a buzzer and radio like my old Sony, and the dimmable LEDs are barely affected by the control, added to a hum on Radio 4. But I got sick of looking, and it does work, and isn't smashed up from repeated drops, being hit, and general abuse like my Sony cube was.
I also bought a car charger for the iPaq only to have succeeded in getting a cradle/charger for review. Bugger. And an HD for the iMac which is destined for the kids. (I got some bargains from Argos of all places, too - a really nice radio controlled car reduced from £20 to a fiver, which I couldn't ignore, much as I hate shopping in Argos).
I've had a killer headache, and I'm worried about Clover not laying eggs for the past 3 days or so. She seems healthy, so perhaps she's just making a super-big-triple-yoke egg or something.
Siani has bought me some shoes as an unbirthday present. I am trying to forget them, because I want them. They're really nice New Rocks.
The other thing I have to play with is an Oscilloscope. Quite a sophisticated one with two probe inputs, two triggers, one logic probe in the bag, lots of interesting controls. It's a Tektronix, IIRC, 465B or something like that. Huge and blue. I have no idea how to use it and it is complaining that something isn't calibrated.
I'm getting royally sick of my Belkin router. It seems slow, constantly drops connections, and has awful range - yet cannot have upgraded antenna fitted.
