Finally, something simple and nice

For some reason, I can't install Mac OS from the iMac restore disks since installing the 80Gb drive. I don't care that much but I had hoped to be able to keep the Classic environment. Hopefully I can find some games which work under Panther on a G3/400 iMac DV

Transwarp GS replacement cable arrived from the US. For the first time in ages, my IIgs booted first time, from cold. Not a hitch. Usually it would need cycled twice before it would even think about it, and moving the cards would result in hours of frustration. This time, remove the card, replace cable with new super-flexy (and proper rainbow coloured) ribbon with gold-plated contacts for the CPU socket, replace card in a different slot (normally this would result in a dead IIgs for at least an afternoon) and it just worked right away.

Incredible.

iMac is now downloading an insane number of software updates...

Sleeper

There's a bit in Sleeper where Woody Allen finds a VW Beetle in a cave, and it starts first time.

I found a red VW Beetle abandoned in a car park and about to be towed! I was actually looking at a white 1980s TransAm (manual, high-output. Sounds wonderful, looks crap) when I spotted it, and someone told me it was parked illegally (private carpark) and they'd got the recovery truck coming to get it. Oh no! So I'm going to save it. I've found the owner, but they're on holiday - as a result I'm going to put it in my yard, and if they want it when they get back, the car is safe - if they'd abandoned it, it's mine, and I have a 1973ish Beetle 1300. In need of restoration (and then some). It will be stored and perhaps a specialist will be asked to weld up the body for me, but I know a reasonable bit about Beetles (I've forgotten more than most people know, sadly, it being a decade since I owned my Beetle).

Not crossing my fingers, as I suspect it will be claimed very quickly, but either way, I will have saved the car from death.

Steak and Baked Potatos for dinner. Mmmm :D
