Jun. 4th, 2009 09:25 amNot entirely randomly, but certainly without any expectation of success, I searched the word "Magpie" on eBay and the first item that showed up was a stuffed magpie on a reasonably simple mount. And, I am very fond of magpies.
Thing is, I'm fond of their interactions, the way they play in the garden and the little sparkle in their eyes when they peer in the window at me. I think I want a stuffed magpie, but then I get sad, because it's not really anything beyond a bundle of feathers and dust. It's not like I want to show off my kill; I'd rather shoot myself in the foot than shoot an animal just for the sake of shooting it and Corvidae in particular I'd avoid. I can understand, if you've been faced with a truly scary animal, or secured a particularly large cache of food, that you'd want to preserve a trophy.
I am torn. I would like to have it, and think it would look nice in the studio or office, but I also would much rather have an orphaned magpie to look after.
