Advice on advice
Mar. 10th, 2009 09:59 amEveryone's on holiday, soooo...
What's the Sony 18-70 DT lens like? I'm trying to be helpful with cameras, and it really does look like the Sony A350 is quite a bargain at the moment for a decent and flexible DSLR - but the "entry level" lens I'd have recommended based on what I've been told would be the Tamron 24-75, which is "as much as the camera itself" (Sigma's 24-70 has now been superceded with a very different lens that competes with the Nikon and Canon ones head-on - and seemingly hammers the Canon 24-70 L on all counts based on reports from Canon users, who are usually notoriously picky about saying anything nice about Sigma glass. I've got one in Nikon mount which I should be out using).
Anyway. A350 with 18-70. It's a very good price. Despite Icon's connection with Sony kit, I've had very little experience with it. Mostly I'm wondering if the lens is any good or if suggesting body only and an alternative lens would be better; Sigma's unstabilised 18-200 IF perhaps.
