As usual, running about and trying to get things done - but there is a plan.
I don't have too much work to do next week. Some, but not TOO much. And yesterday, rather than being overly sociable, I sold more stuff on eBay and bought, paid for and collected a Digitech GSP 2120 VGS.
This means my studio is now different AGAIN, but I can play various styles of guitar (well. I can make the noises of. Playing is a little ambitious) and record them directly. Steve Vai and John Entwistle use this box, so I assume it's good, it's certainly impressive to my ears, although nearly every patch seems to be a variation on "lots of distortion".
With balanced outs, a good noise gate, and valve, this doesn't clip in a harsh way and it's not adding noise to the setup. It's also purple. It also has a skull instead of one of the knobs, so an email to Digitech about sorting that will happen, although there's a quaint charm about the little metal skull.
The patchbay and vocal processing got moved about and I spotted a Digitech Studio 400 on eBay going cheap so I might save some money on replacing my noisy old outboard with something a bit more professional - though a Lexicon or something is still planned, since they offer tap tempo to match delay to the song - more sophisticated ones can do it with MIDI clock too, but that's more than I want to get into.
Today sees a run down to Bath to visit
samoth and deliver synths to
shevek. You can guess that there are more pictures of the studio coming.
But also at some point next week, I'm going to record something. This is why I wanted it all done and dusted ASAP; I had time to and really in the space of a fortnight I've completely overhauled the studio yet again. I've sold a lot of kit and bought a lot in that short time, and I'm very tempted to try and track all the gear I've had in the past and where it came from, hpw long I had it, and how much I used it.
I suspect it'd come down to two or three synths, a guitar, and maybe some very stubborn MIDI leads.
