House progress, kinda
Jun. 3rd, 2008 09:57 pmWhat the hell is it with modern DIY stuff?
3 lights purchased.
2 missing the clips to hold the glass to the fixture
1 missing the rubber insulator where the mains cable goes in.
Result is that I need to make a trip back to the store to return two of the three.
Anyway, ONE hall light is now a flush fitting one. Two to go, and frankly the ceiling needs plastering before I do them anyway. Might have a go myself, but tomorrow am going to Edinburgh to go for dinner with
ailska and collect some items from Gavin.
Gavin came down today and liberated two NeXT displays, some Acorn/Apple computers and other bits, and is giving me back my PS2 Linux kit (that he bought from me) - I'll need to find another black, ideally Firewire equipped, original-shape PS2 (there's a specific version that didn't work that I want to avoid). He's also giving me the curious device that is a Sparcstation Voyager.
Also took a lot of the old broken furniture from the cellar to the tip along with broken radios, and listed Flat Eric and my Technics hifi on eBay. Hopefully those will go, I might even try taking the hifi to the secondhand shop since they massively overprice everything and will probably give me more than I'd get for flinging it in the skip or trying to deal with Freetards on Freecycle (this isn't dissing the concept or execution of Freecycle, merely the users, such as this one)...
Original: "I've got a large collection of various old computers, many Acorn Archimedes, that may be available for collection"
Response, some time after the original post... "ill take all of them...please answer back thnks"
I respond saying that they're spoken for now, and get:
"ok thanks....im just collecting pc's to fix andd then give them to people who need them."
I'm cynical, I suspect.
The cellar is looking tidier, and the more crap I remove, the more useful stuff I can store in it. Tomorrow I skip the broken NeXT monitor and a few other items. Charged up my bike lights and found the other lock and keys for it, so I now have two locks, keys, bags, racks, working lights, and just need to pump up the tyres and find a home for it or some way of storing it in Birmingham. I do want to take it to Glasgow and try the new cycle route though!
