Geeks...

Jul. 5th, 2007 01:06 am
Today was quiet; both [livejournal.com profile] jenova_red and [livejournal.com profile] siani_hedgehog seemed somewhat unwell. I'm sure there is a common factor somewhere...

I did the usual working and so forth, but when Jen did feel a bit better, we had a delivery from DHL to look forward to investigating! Also, we picked up Resident Evil 4 for the Wii, which is rather good. I seem to have trouble with the co-ordination required for nunchuck and Wiimote control, though; aiming and movement are somewhat clumsy for me.

Wishing I had the right sort of environment to really make use of the Dell, and gradually nesting on it. It does, sadly, duplicate a lot of the iMac's functions and the iMac is all set up and behaving, but the Dell is getting more software soon and will be getting properly tested.

Does anyone know what their USB DVB tuner is? The options price list says "£93"; the accessory lists show some USB tuner devices for £60 or so. I'm wondering what is different about the optional one. Same thing with the bags; the bag provided matches the accessory one at £102, the build-to-order one claims to be nylon (not nylon/leather) and £82. If it's the case that accessories bought with systems are cheaper, I wonder what tuner they are offering... all the reviews say a "small USB stick", but that looks like the Hauppauge WinTV HVR-900 - an accessory costing £66.

[livejournal.com profile] jenova_red ordered something for us to play with over the couple of weeks... that parceltape looks promising...

Ugh

Microsoft. Or, why Apple managed to remain in business despite the computers of the mid to late 90s being outdated crap with an unstable OS.

Drag and Drop - text. I have a serial number for a trial, that I will need in a few minutes. Select, drag... um... nowhere to drop it...

Try opening Notepad and try again.

Nope.

(OS X would just drop a text clipping. And I don't think this is a very new concept in Mac OS anyway, or even in any OS).

ActiveSync.
Bluetooth fails to connect.
Outlook is too busy trying to do Wizards.
Everything crashes at once.

Windows Media Player 11 - it's supposed to connect to uPnP devices. Like, say, a Mac running Elgato EyeConnect. My PS3 connects to it. Hell, my Pocket PC does.

I can see it. It's in the "Network" folder/view/whatever, as a media source. Double click/context click and the options are for opening it in WMP. Does it work? Does it bugger. No sign of a networked device to get media from. Online help all focusses on how to share your media, not use shared media, so I can't find if I've missed something obvious. Yes, of course I can mount the directory and use it, that's not the point. Give the consumer a technology, expect the consumer to use it.

*sighs*

M2010 is a lovely machine. Shame about the OS...
