Oct. 4th, 2006 11:20 amDoes anyone know what the OEM drive is on Mac G5s with dual layer?
It seems that you can get a DL SuperDrive (functionality, if not Apple-branded) for £19-22 - Sony ones for £19.99, £22 for the Pioneer DVR-111D(Black). Whilst this is not a vital upgrade, it's a cheap one, and it also means the conventional SuperDrive from my G5 (a Sony, which replaced the old Pioneer that failed, supplied by Apple) can be put in my eMac. And the eMac's Combo drive can be put in my G3, giving it a DVD drive (I don't think it has a DVD drive at the moment. I'm not actually sure).
BT Router arrived today; nice bit of kit, but the firmware limits the hardware quite a lot, and joy - if you flash the firmware to get the better transmit power, the VoIP breaks. Which I'll probably need working if I get BT Fusion, which looks likely as I haven't had any calls to suggest I won't be getting it.
The Wireless signal dropped to the G5, but was really strong downstairs. I am royally sick of the 'directional' nature of routers which seem to assume they're going to be downstairs, but primarily I haven't set up the BT router yet because the Firewall appears to be designed to be used by spackers. It also has weird defaults for routing, and to make for a trouble-free swapover, I was going to assign it the same details as the Linksys router I'm using presently.
I also have a suspicion I've been denied some post :/ I saw a parcel in the van that looked just about the right size for the Speech Synthesizer for my TI99, and that was supposedly sent yesterday at a rate which certainly implied RMSD. But that little box wasn't handed to me. I'm not overly worried yet, but I hope I haven't been overcharged for postage.
