Bank charges
Mar. 9th, 2006 10:26 amI'm wondering if the bank is going to steal £39 from me despite instigating a transfer yesterday, and I'm rather pleased to have found this:
When I get a chance, I'm going to go over my statements and detail any charges I have had (The £39 for a £1 potential unauthorised overdraft that the phone banking woman not only refused to reverse, but was patronising and rude about)
Two standard letters - one for England, one for Scotland - plus instructions on how to take the bank to court (seriously!) and explanation of the legal arguments.
I hope that most people don't get these; I'm notoriously bad with money, but I think that regardless of how you end up with them, they are not a charge, but a fine - and a fairly hefty one at that.

The letters and advice are free. I feel strongly enough about this that were a class-action against the banks to be raised proposing that such charges represented a percentage of the amount paid in the event of them paying the amount, or a more reasonable fee in the event of the transaction being returned unpaid, I would support it. Even the Co-operative bank charges £35 - you cannot vote with your feet and change banks!
