Teh Intarweb Is Broked!
Sep. 1st, 2005 11:28 amLast night, I lost internet.
I called BT. Have I missed a bill (yes, but not so long ago that they've switched it off)
Is there a fault? No.
What's happening? "Your router is returning garbage".
Ah. I'd been messing with it because the wireless signal was dropping. Okay, I shall reboot. Spend an hour messing with it. Still no Intarweb.
Call again. "Dear BT Customer. We are aware of a problem with connectivity".
Ah. So I was all ready to buy a new router, and it was BT all along. Sure enough, this morning, I have interweb again.
However, the wireless still sucks, so - any recommendations for an ADSL Modem and WiFi Router? I have a Belkin thingy which is alright but clearly not up to our stone monstrosity of a house, and cannot have better antenna fitted (at least, not officially; I see that one could hack them in). Comet are selling WRT routers for £69 with a free PCI WiFi, PCMCIA WiFi, or USB thing - I thought I could use the PCI one in my Dell and move it to the guest room, providing internet for guests without having cable horrors. Maybe Comet have sold out of these now, of course.
There are also these new Linksys things with massive numbers of antennas, claiming huge range, but those would appear to need an external ADSL modem. More PSUs. My studio is already a connectivity nightmare.
Paid today; I pay for my new toys (Yamaha DG-1000 and Behringer V-AMP 2, which is actually going to be my dad's new toy) and pay bills. Woohoo. I also added a BBC Master Compact of dubious condition and Apple Final Cut Express 2 to my eBay listings. Today being Thursday, I might list something really good, and I'm considering selling my Contax SL300R T * since I have the uglier but higher res U4R and the insanely pretty i4R (these are still available from Contax's service department too).
Found Apple II Europlus on eBay with NO bids, at 99p. Mineminemine. Heheheh. If anyone reads this and outbids me, I shall cry. Not much; it's untested, but I have spares for Apple IIs all over the place.
