I have a problem
Nov. 9th, 2008 04:43 pmI think my equipment is too powerful for the space I'm trying to work in.
Having bought thisannoyingly crappy and misleadingly shown immensely useful "shooting table" on eBay (which claimed to have a new RRP of £199; Kenro sell it for £89, and it's a "still life table" - i.e. something designed for sitting ON a table and with the intention of being lit with fairly gutless flash) I thought I would try and make use of it to do some product shots.
Unfortunately, my lighting consists of two Elinchrom Dlire 4s and one Elinchrom 100BX. The flash reflector is practically touching the base of the plexiglass, and even turned down to lowest power, the usual "250th sync, f8-11" is really, REALLY not working.
ETA: Doh. Increasing ISO isn't going to help, I'm thinking backwards there. That's why the D3 isn't helping, ISO 200 minimum. Stupid mistake to make.
This is bloody irritating. I'm considering buying some ND filters, but OMFG the cost of equipping my primary lenses; I'd need 58 through to 82mm at least. I've got a Cokin hood with 58mm thread but no filters for it.
Also, to finish off my stuff I need to spend another £200-300 on IKEA things. Sick of buying stuff. WANT TO WORK/PLAY.
On the plus side; loads of rubbish removed and there's a big pile of Amiga games, annuals, clothes and so forth to go to PDSA tomorrow. I don't know if they'll want the games, but they're all boxed and complete so they might.
Liking the Sigma 28-70 f2.8. Small, light and pretty quick.
Which presents the next dilemma. I have at present a 100-300 f4 and 120-400 f5.6-6.3 OS. I can buy one, and it would be silly to duplicate them. Except a wise man said "Why not get the 70-200 f2.8 APO EX DG HSM II". And this does indeed sound like immensely wise advise, especially if I decide to keep the 28-70 instead of getting the 24-70 HSM when it arrives.
If I get the 70-200, I have a gap between 200 and 300, but I could also use a 1.4x or 2x convertor - it will AF even with, apparently.
Having bought this
