Called the airline to check on baggage.

I'm allowed:

Two suitcases.
One carry on up to 18Kg
One Personal Item.

Now, I reckon my D3 kit counts as my carry on and I might go retrieve my LowePro trekker which USED to be the right size for carry on, and has laptop space, a pocket for passports and paperwork, space for iPod etc. My personal item can be a laptop or camera. Whilst I am tempted to chance the idea that my personal item could be a 6Kg 800mm lens, the "two suitcases" idea interests me - one suitcase for clothes, one for boots and a bloody great big lens. Me, travel light? That ain't gonna happen. Hence my joy at having a Sebring with a full tank of gas waiting for me at the airport.

I need to sort out appropriate insurance for all this kit. My D3 needs insurance anyway, but I think I need to arrange a permanent £20K camera gear policy so when I do things like reviewing Hasselblads and stuff, I'm covered.

Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] aidan_skinner - I may still make it up, but if not, have a really good party.

Another thing to mess up getting back in time; I'd need to swing by Hawick to get stuff anyway, but they've closed the sodding A7 south of Langholm due to landslip.

I don't know how bird photographers do it. I can HEAR the birds, but I can't even find a boring common one to try out the lens on, so I closed the window and went to get a cup of tea instead. However, when a bird DOES show up in the garden, I'll be there. I'm hoping for the local Magpies to gather.
