Today, dashed out nice and early (for me) to pick up things from John Parris, then over to Kelso. This is the Delica's run-after-a-service so I could feel what difference (if any) things had made.

It seems very happy with the new oil and filters, changing gear better (despite the gearbox being untouched) and being a bit quieter/boosting in a more satisfying manner. I think a few frequent oil changes will make it into a very happy truck indeed, though at £30 a shot it'll be expensive to do it as quickly as I'd like (i.e. every 2,500 miles). The filter is designed to be drained and used twice, a fact which surprisingly doesn't make me any more inclined to buy the genuine part at approximately one arm and a good part of a leg (or in other terms "More than the kit of oil, air, fuel and a sump washer from eBay"). No, I'm not putting engine flush in it - I don't want 70,000 miles of crud suddenly moving and blocking my oil pump.

Yes, 70,000 miles. I worked out the mileage without taking into account the overread on the dash, and it's done 69,500 roughly. Assuming nothing has been tampered with and the 68K Km import mileage is correct.

18-200 DC OS is a nice lens. Nearly killed it thanks to a Munro's bus totally failing to spot the gigantic yellow-eyed beast about to pass it and pulling out whilst still signalling left. Bastards. At least the Delica's brakes work.

Now, I tidy a bit, and perhaps use the Volvo to take the crap from the oil change to the dump.

Part of the routine servicing on the truck is to check things like spare wheels and grease any bolts/brackets supporting them (mine's covered in soot from the holed tailpipe). It's a Bridgestone Dueller A/T, 225/80/15, on a nicer-condition alloy than the ones on the car. Everyone says that the 235/75s are "about the same radius". Are they bollocks. The 225/80 is MUCH larger, visibly so, and that's why my speedo is inaccurate. Sadly what looks like a lovely brand-new tyre appears to have suffered from the brackets under the car (it was fully inflated), so I might deflate it a touch or leave it out of the car to see if the sidewalls recover.

Next time I drive anywhere, I need Björk's "Army of Me" for this car.
There's something curiously calming about going "Argh, fuckit!" about having too many things to do at once, grabbing a tin of 3-in-1 lithium grease, and methodically ensuring every lock, slider, runner and hinge on the car is clean and lubricated.

It makes it easier to get on with everything else.
