Wheee. London was fun, in a hard-work way. Trains seemed to work, were emptyish (although someone did sit in the only reserved seat in the carriage - mine - despite the damn thing being empty AND having the card, and LCD display, saying reserved. She was spectacularly ugly and had the affront to be eating a cheeseburger when I was desperately hungry. On the plus side, she looked like she was very miserable. I just sat in a different seat, which had a better view anyway).
Canon's new 1Ds Mk III is quite an impressive beast. 21Mp, and a nice weight and feel to it. I could almost be persuaded to try using a Canon for a while ;). Also ended up chatting to their somewhat lonely Calculator division for a while, since no-one else seemed interested and I must have "nerd" tattooed on my forehead - the bloke there had an HTC phone so I beamed him some freeware from the Ameo.
Chewbacca is probably going to go to a specialist Volvo repairer, so hopefully will get a good repair for a sensible price. They said that if the subframe bushes aren't too hard to do (the parts are cheap) they'll do those for me as well whilst it's in the air, and I might ask them to do the ARB droplinks, reducing the number of rattles the car produces.
This bit of Birmingham is so quiet, and yet I can walk a few yards up the road and get a train. Cities are such a mixed-bag; London always irritates me (I found the tube particularly infuriating to get from Euston to Brick Lane, but did figure it out and ended up at Aldgate East without getting lost), but I like all the shops I rush past. One day I'll get to look in them :D
Now I need to find an ISP. My default setting is BT, I'm quite tempted to get Orange just to get the free laptop if the service is otherwise just the same as any other... the BT line is now working here. And when I've done more work, I'm going to see if I can fix the alarm system. Looks like it needs an NVR Reset but also a new battery pack.
