Quick snaps

Just did a couple of snaps to show the LG Style-i - colour balance is WAY off, damn flourescent lighting. Anyway, this might explain the scale of it and why I'm all excited about how useful it makes the Ameo as a phone!

Ameo and LG Style-i Ameo and LG Style-i
The LG HBM-700 "Bluetooth Remote" headset. It's very small, but has buttons and a display. The only drawback is the odd layout of buttons, which takes a little getting used to. Also the PDair case for the Ameo in the background.
OLED OLED
The OLED display is very crisp and clear, and very pleasant to look at. Having seen this, I want a bedside alarm clock with a display like this.
Scale Scale
Here it is easier to judge the scale of the HBM-700 beside the Ameo. It really is VERY small. The idea being that the Ameo is in your pocket or bag, and you don't need to touch it to make/recieve calls. Voice control and normal dialling all work.
Missed Call Missed Call
The display gives you caller ID and alerts you to a missed call - you can dial the missed call and view the number, or if you have MS Voice Command, just press "Send" and ask the machine which missed calls you have had!

It's not an urgent thing, but:

If anyone reading knows of someone disposing of a NEC MobilePro 900/C (900C is preferred, but 900 is good too) then I'd really like to know about it. They're not expensive on eBay US - aside from shipping, they tend to have a BIN of $80-140 (the latter being for very good/WiFi card included models).

It's purely for a retro thing; it was the last consumer-market Handheld PC (which is why a 900 is good too - 900s run Windows CE H/PC 2000, 900Cs run CE.NET 4.2). I really like CE devices and really liked the Handheld PC form factor, so if I find a cheap one, I'll buy it and keep it. I'm also looking for any CE 1.0 device which is likely to be getting chucked out, so I have the first and last of the Handheld PC line.

They look like this: MobilePro auction showing it closed.

Also, it looks like my iPaq system has a new home! :D
Random visit from Joel! Haven't seen him for a year, he just popped by. I thought it was the courier to take a parcel to Germany (showed up too, yeay!), it was nice to catch up with him. He now has FOUR children. I offered to lend him two half-bricks ;)

I got a response back from a seller on the NEC MobilePro (who has $139 "Grade A with WiFi card and 64Mb Flash included") saying the USPS Shipping Calculator is correct and international shipping is an entirely reasonable $35-39 EMS.

So, it'll cost me in total £90 to have a NEC MobilePro, which I don't really need, but I'd rather like. The smarter people reading are going "Uhm, didn't you just sell your iPaq because you didn't want duplicate devices?", but of course, this isn't a duplicate. Ameo = 624MHz VGA "keyboardless" device (yes, it has one, but it's not part of the main unit), iPaq = 624MHz VGA keyboardless device. 900c is more like a subnotebook format and rather more suitable for writing on, but it is mostly just "WANT ONE!".

In light of this, would anyone be interested in my IBM WorkPad Z50 for starters? It's boxed, has all leads except the cloverleaf PSU mains lead (never got around to replacing it). Backlight is quite dim now sadly, but visible, and VGA output works. It is, of course, really of very little interest except to other nerdy types, but was a fun thing to muck about with. I think I paid about £20 for it.

I'm going to have a ponder what else I could part with to get this little device[1]. Being rational about my geektoys++.

Also, anyone know people still using ADAT (blackface, XT for sure, not sure about others) for recording? I have a "BRC" - Big Remote Control - and AI2 interface as well as two blackface units and... an EDAC loom. Underpricing eBay values:

BRC = £50 with long serial cable, manuals I think, and PSU lead. I think it does MIDI machine control, it does a lot of stuff I never figured out or made use of, but basically acts as a huge frontend for the ADAT system and controls chained ADAT units.
Blackface ADATS - make offer? One works, one needs PSU repairs. Includes Little Remote Control.
AI2 = £50 I think. Not sure what they're worth now.
EDAC loom - £50 - these cost a lot new, about £200 IIRC. It's a 48-pin (IIRC) connection on the back of the ADAT, to 8 in, 8 out, balanced TRS jacks.

I'll sell the whole ADAT setup for £200, or a close offer (the BRC is likely to fetch £75-120 on eBay), but it needs to be collected/delivered.

[1]It's not actually that little. 8.1" "widescreen" display is pretty substantial for a 640 x 240 screen resolution. But it has a full-size keyboard, and more importantly for my interest, it's running CE.NET 4.2, something not often found in consumer devices. I'm having some very serious thoughts about getting back into programming and perhaps directing my efforts at Windows CE/Mobile - though it would mean using Visual Studio, which I tried to use a long time ago (Visual Basic, admittedly) and didn't get on with at all. I like handheld computing, it's one of those "this is the future!" areas, so I feel more motivated to try making these devices do "neat stuff", especially adapting/updating people's open-source/available source projects to support more than the common QVGA SmartPhone standards.
