Can we interest you in this, sir?

Well - assuming my legendarily bad credit score doesn't break it - I'm joining the Digital Revolution *ahem*. Basically, I'm moving my ADSL line from one phone to the other, and the very nice man at BT as well as overlapping the handover, is giving me a free (possibly useless, possibly alright) hub, and talked me into BT Fusion by dropping my ADSL charge. Now, BT Fusion is part mobile, hence the credit scoring (bah), but basically it's a backup handset - 10p for calls up to an hour tp landline, 15p up to an hour to BT Mobile, and 25p to "Other Mobile" (this, I will make use of for calling people, as the standard BT rate is 25p minute).

The handset is a Motorola V3 with something (bluetooth access point is my guess? WiFi? It's hard to tell from the BT site) that lets it work "within range of the base station" for this cheap rate, and roam handover with the cheap rate (say you move out of range of the base, the call initiated remains at the cheap rate). It's a regular mobile, so I have a second mobile if it works. As a mobile, I'll be in no rush to use it as it doesn't have inclusive minutes, but it's very interesting to compare their business solution to their "Total Broadband" solution, which I think is a WiFi/real VoIP setup.

(I am fairly sure it's Bluetooth, so it'll have a fairly shit range - it'll work in the office and possibly the studio, but I doubt it'll work downstairs).

I suspect I get my free 2Wire 2700 hub either way, and all reports suggest this has insanely good WiFi reliability and has two VoIP lines. Hence them offering it free, so I can use Fusion, I bet...

Main thing is - my ADSL should NOT be down for more than a couple of days, if it goes down at all, I save £3/month on ADSL costs (whoohoo), and maybe I get another phoneline or something - we'll see how that pans out.

BT have also reduced the cost of static IP, so if I do get a Raq server, I will be able to have my own server without too much hassle.
