Aug. 7th, 2006 09:39 pmJust specced up a MacPro vs. Dell.
Dell Precision 490 with dual dualcore Xeons (5150, the closest I can find in their site - 2.66GHz), 250Gb HD, 256Mb Graphics (Quadro card, I know it's a more expensive card), 1Gb RAM, no monitor, GIG-E, the closest drive I could find for a Superdrive match, and Firewire...
£3,047. PLUS VAT. I have added two odd options - an optical mouse (Apple comes with one, and yes, two buttons + scroll), and "Boot to HD as first device". A £3 option. I have no idea WHY this is an option.
Apple?
£1699. Inc. VAT.
Curse those overpriced Apples.
(There's really not much in it specwise, the Dell does have more RAM potentially, but also slower FSB - and finding this data took serious effort, Dell's site sucks. It might be out of date, so the FSB isn't Gospel (the page still shows older CPUs)).
In other news: The 80s still rock, my Cobalt still isn't tested and working yet, the Polysix sold for £235 (and ouch to PayPal, I think I will offer bank transfers more often), I'm not feeling so ill, my Sera got a centre cubby/armrest for £30 and one just sold on eBay for £90 (does the "Yeay ToyotaSeraBloke/Andrew" dance, which applies when people are nice about my Sera), the guy from Space has remained in touch with me to ask about synths, and I think certain people rock :D
EDIT: I got 490/390 confused. I did mean 490 after all, it's the Xeon one.
