I have new eyes, a sick chicken, and 8Mb broadband.

The eyes are downright odd. If feels wrong being able to read stuff without glasses, and I appear to have taken to contacts naturally - 3rd attempt and I can remove/replace them happily. New glasses are due 14th, so I won't be wearing contacts much, but I am going to get some for... well, I don't really know what for yet, but it's another option.

The sick chicken is Clover, the friendliest and fluffiest hen ever. She is off food, feels like her crop is a bit full (but much less full than it was last night when she was full of water, she's not talkative, lethargic, keeps plopping herself down, and seems to just want to hide in the shade if she's outside. The vet, who like all vets shows both a relative lack of interest in things which aren't cows or dogs, and a similar lack of enthusiasm for home diagnosis or research, has given me Bayril and a syringe.

Chickens are not easy to get anything they don't want inside them, at least at the beak end. I expect that checking for an eggbound hen is less difficult.

Animals are confusing, chickens moreso than most; as far as I can tell, they're a tube - stuff goes in one end and comes out the other. They shouldn't be complicated enough to need kidneys and so forth.

8Mb broadband seems alright; most of the delays seem to be with the way the router, the intarweb, and the Macs interact, so all the negotiation/lookup takes a while, only to have instant pages (if they're all from the same source).

Overall, today rates as being Pretty Crap - eyes or no eyes.
Taking eyes out, putting on glasses, and going to the vet in Jedburgh. Even if Clover has something wrong that is going to be hard to fix, I am making sure someone has to look.
Ugh, the town is infested with drunken common people. It's noisy and unpleasant and I'm seriously on edge.

Combined with Clover's seemingly very serious illness - whatever it may be - I am not at all happy this evening :( I've got doubts Clover will recover, because she has gone almost an entire day without showing interest in food; though her eyes are still bright, and she's still got some energy for a good flap when getting moved. She's sleeping in the henhouse tonight and has been given her medicine, so I can only hope that she'll recover.

As soon as she starts eating, I'll feel a lot happier. She's been offered all her favourite foods; rice, grapes, cherries. No peas, but she's shown so little interest in everything else, I doubt a pea would be any different. She's also been fed ready-brek with a syringe.

I can't think of any source of poison. I don't know enough about what hens can't eat, but since their environment has been pretty constant for a year, I don't think there is anything in it that could have hurt them; though they have only had full freedom of the garden this year.
