May. 3rd, 2006 03:00 pmBack light fitted on bike (the big CatEye one with a reflector that looks all retro and importantly, visible. Fitted right onto the bracket on the rack, perfectly aligned - bikes are definitely better than they used to be in that regard).
Racing Beat Oil Cooler screens fitted to the RX8 - the RX8 has two giant openings in the bumper below the lights, for the engine oil coolers. These are VERY exposed, and as you might imagine, have engine oil in. Which is kinda important. Given the rocks they seem to leave all over roads these days, and the fact that after 4,000 miles my oil coolers already have countless dents and dead insects wedged in them, the £40 screens seem like a worthwhile investment as "oil cooler insurance". They also look quite fetching.
The chore of fitting - i.e. removing the front bumper - wasn't half as bad as expected because the bumper is super flexible and doesn't need to be fully removed. As such, I could undo the whole thing, but then merely move each side forward, slide the screen into the oil cooler rubber ducting, and refit. Result: nothing broken, scratched or lost.
Scorpio is getting tyres tomorrow and MOTd on Friday. I found cheap tyres but still V-rated. The RX8 needs the fronts putting on the back to even out the wear; after 4,000 miles the rears are noticeably worn (not worn, but less tread than the fronts) and I suspect that I'll need tyres before the first service if I don't rotate them (even then, it's definitely going to be a car hungry for tyres. One of the downsides I guess, but the car itself costs so little it's swings and roundabouts - and I can't say that given the usual mix of cars I drive, I've noticed the fuel consumption being that painful - more the increases in fuel price locally).
