"Oh no! Apple are supporting Windows!"
"WTF"
"This is the end..."

Hey. You newbies might have forgotten it, but Apple a: have had Virtual PC for eons, from Microsoft themselves - which was pretty much functional, and b: shipped "DOS" versions of Macintosh and Power Macintosh computers in the early-mid 90s, complete with x86 co-processor board. BootCamp might be tidier and running on sexier hardware, but it's nothing revolutionary in terms of Apple's approach.

Still - byebye Dell, byebye eMac, hello iMac 20", when I can afford to. And I can see the option of Intel iBook being offered to Siani when it's launched.
And so, the flamewars begin.

Am I the only person who thinks that the option of running Windows natively on a Mac is a GOOD thing, with no real drawbacks or risk to marketshare/OS X? I mean, people choose a more expensive system, with less software (though no less in terms of what tasks you can do, generally, just less choice of tools, and a rather lower risk of getting one that just doesn't work)... so they're suddenly going to fall in love with Windows because they can run it on a Mac?

Even if they do buy an Intel Mac JUST to run Windows, I can only see that as a win for Apple, since they again are paying more, and getting OS X, and have to get Windows from elsewhere.

*shrugs*
Whilst on the subject of Apple.

Joy of Tech also laments the apparent skipping of their 30th Birthday.

No media source appears to have a memory long enough to have twigged that the TAM was announced on the 20th Anniversary of Apple's Incorporation, in January 1997 (and shipped in May '97) - and 1997, not 6, was considered to be Apple's Twentieth Anniversary year.

Apple computers may have been around since 1976, but Apple Computer, Inc. has only been around since 1977.
I will have a new phone for Whitby, the utterly unexciting Nokia 6822. Which means, I might actually reply to texts there. I had a 6820 before, but it didn't work with Apple's iSync; apparently support for the 6820 and 6822 has now been added by Apple, which means that I can sync the address books on my Macs with my phone properly, which means I will use the phone. I'm also upgrading the parental units' K700is to Motorola V3s, so I'll have a couple of Orange-network K700is to dispose of (bloody Orange, locking their handsets - at least Nokias can be unlocked remotely).

Before updating to 10.4.6, I did the recommended iSync tricks, so my Macs are all nice and up to date. iSync is brilliant.

I'm wondering if Jennie managed to make our vouchers into tickets... I hope so - I would like to see Zombina again - but if not then we'll be outside the Spa. Insert suitable rant about changed rates, dates and so forth here.

Excited about Whitby and seeing everyone again. I hope the photographers are about, as I'm bringing the Sigma (as usual) and Pentax, and the new Sigma 17-70mm (sadly, the 50-500 is on the way, but won't be here in time), and maybe an 8mm which should be amusing. Don't know what extra lenses to dig out for the Pentax, I have a box of old lenses to mess with that I forgot about.
