Little things
Aug. 10th, 2005 12:53 pmA while back I replaced the cable to the accelerator card in my IIgs (Transwarp - it's running at 7MHz, I know I missed a comment about that earlier, but I have a 14MHz chip - need to get a 32K Cache to go above 8MHz and my 32MHz Oscillator is FUBAR) and it booted first time. Next time I tried it, it needed the restart, but I'm hoping that was a fluke.
Anyway, it's been a buggy POS for ages. One thing it would never run was Music Studio (remember that?). Today I switched it on, it booted first time, and I noticed I had Music Studio loaded on the MacHFS partition. So I tried it.
It worked. It even loaded music files. Yeay! I missed Music Studio. Only thing left to sort out is DNS resolution, perhaps I will fit a proper 10 Base T Ethernet card and skip the bridge section, as I think (from other people's remarks) that this is the issue. Plus I could do away with the Workgroup Server 95, which whilst it is lovely, is horribly noisy and Not Very Useful.
Now, I am thinking perhaps I can start on my retro music article, so I need to find a proper Apple IIgs monitor for photographs. Can't have an Amiga monitor fitted to the IIgs, after all!
Other nice things: I think I shall have an HX4700 (new). Yeay indeed. This means I will be selling my UX50, I think, with the leather wallet, 256Mb Memory Stick and so forth. It has a slight bend on the hinge so the screen is offset by about 1.5mm at the opposite side of the hinge, but works perfectly and is in otherwise good condition. If anyone wants to make an offer before it goes on eBay, feel free to do so - it's got WiFi and Bluetooth, is PalmOS 5.2.1, has a screen protector and so forth.
The iPaq is getting a Stingray leather case for the review. Rather lovely. I wanted to review the cases, and wanted a picture of the Eagle Ray model (it has a lovely stripe down it) but would have been totally happy with the most basic cowhide case, but nSignia provided the Stingray because they didn't have any Eagle Ray in stock for the standard battery and I'd expressed a liking for that one. That's a lovely attitude, I think, especially given the cost of the cases - I really did just want the picture of the Eagle Ray because it looks so photogenic.
Of course, it looks like I might get an extended battery. Which means no case when I'm using it as such...
Does anyone have experience of moving licenses on their iPaqs? The new one will presumably have a different machine ID, and I have much software (thankfully nothing has cost me anything yet, but I don't want to lose the license I do have).
Siani helped with the page layouts for the review, which has resulted in a very fresh look for the articles compared to the rest of the magazine. I won't see it in print until October, but I can't wait.
